The Schengen Agreement
With an aim to build an area in Europe where both citizens and tourists could move freely and economy could be boosted, five of Europe’s countries namely France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands joined hands for the formation of the Schengen region. An agreement was signed in 1985 in a small Luxembourg town called Schengen, thus giving the region its name.
